Research: Shifting state-industrial relations and the rise of the United States as a maritime industrial power

Alicia Maggard is a historian of the 19th-century United States with particular interests in the history of technology, political economy, and relationships between material infrastructures and state power. Her work has been supported by five special collecting institutions as well as by the McNeil Center for Early American Studies and the Naval History and Heritage Command. She enjoys teaching in a thoroughly interdisciplinary program and supervising undergraduate research on the maritime past.
