Rachel Scudder, Ph.D.
Visiting Assistant Professor in Oceanography
Course: Oceanographic Processes
860-572-5359 ext. 6
Professor Scudder earned her M.A. and Ph.D. in Earth Sciences at Boston University and most recently was a postdoctoral research associate in Oceanography at Texas A&M University. She studies volcanic ash mixed into ocean sediment and linkages between chemistry, tectonics, and sedimentation as recorded in marine sediment. She is also interested in reconstructing patterns of ocean circulation and deepwater formation. Scudder has been to sea on five research cruises in the Caribbean Sea and Pacific Ocean, including two IODP Expeditions (322 and 333) to the Nankai Trough subduction zone off the coast of Japan.
Originally hailing from New Hampshire, Scudder completed her undergraduate degree at the University of New Hampshire, where she studied Earth Sciences and Applied Mathematics. She is an avid reader, semi-accomplished home baker, and is always excited to explore new places.
